Beyond Visible Cameras

SWIR_Header

Physical properties of light imperceptible to the human eye are now visible with cameras from SVS-Vistek. These specialized cameras leverage standard industrial imaging systems in terms of technology with polarization planes or wavelengths from infrared to ultraviolet. However, despite cutting-edge imaging capabilities, these cameras are as simple to use as conventional industrial cameras and offer superior price and performance.

The human eye can only see in wavelengths between 400 and 750 nm in the electromagnetic spectrum. But, with infrared and ultraviolet light, now Machine Vision Imaging can go far beyond that enabling invisible markings, identification of materials and much more. Even further, properties of light such as polarization facilitate industrial inspection in many industrial applications involving non-metallic materials. The capabilities of these unique cameras make create limitless use cases and applications for SVS-Vistek cameras.

Examples of SWIR Imaging

Product Visualization

Because different objects emit different electromagnetic radation, or reflect light differently, SWIR sensors can detect and display the different emissions extremely well. Materials such as glass, plastic, water, powder, salt, sugar to name a few are esily detectable thru the SWIR sensor range.

Water Visualization

The way water reflects light, SWIR gathers the electromagnetic waves very well. This is vitally important to see if materials contain water. Because light reflects off objects differently, SWIR sensors can easily see the difference.

Foreign Material Visualization

Finding foreign objects amongst desired materials is a must. Different objects reflects light differently. In this case, metal, rubber, and plastic are not easily detectable, but once you look at them in the SWIR range, they stick out making them easy to distinguish and eliminate.

Temperature Observation

Different temperatures are difficult to detect thru visible light. This is extremely important when having to measure heat emminating from objects. Objects such as glass, heated tools, and metal. SWIR can capture images with the information that is vital to production. The following is an example of seeing different temperatures with normal, visible light and the image that the SWIR sensor captures.

Transmission Observation

Transmission observation is the ability to see thru different objects to inspect the contents on the inside. Being able to visibly see the contents inside different packing materials has the benefits of detecting flaws and proper packing amounts.
